Job Description

We’re Underdog.

The fastest-growing sports gaming company – ever.

We build innovative games, products, and experiences for American sports fans.

We’re here to shake up the fastest growing industry with bold ideas, custom-built tech, and the drive to win.

Founded in 2020, our team has built four of today’s most widely played fantasy games and launched the Underdog Sportsbook – built entirely in-house with our own technology. That means we control our product, move fast, and create experiences you won’t find anywhere else.

In just over two years, we’ve reached over a $1.2 billion valuation, with investors like BlackRock, Spark Capital, SV Angel, Mark Cuban, Kevin Durant, and Adam Schefter. And we’re just getting started.

At Underdog, we believe that sports are for everyone. Join us.

About the role and why it’s unique:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive SEO strategy focused on both technical SEO and content optimization, ensuring maximum visibility for Underdog Sports in organic search results.
  • Oversee site architecture, crawlability, indexation, and site performance to improve search engine rankings, user experience, and overall site health.
  • Partner with product, marketing engineering, and design teams to ensure SEO best practices are integrated into site infrastructure.
  • Implement reporting best practices for a nascent SEO function.
  • Conduct regular technical SEO audits to identify and resolve issues related to crawl errors, duplicate content, site speed, structured data, and indexation.
  • Provide technical recommendations to improve SEO performance, working closely with engineering teams to implement these changes.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders (including product, design, and marketing teams) to ensure SEO is prioritized during product launches, site updates, and redesigns.
  • Act as the SEO subject matter expert and provide guidance on SEO strategy, prioritization, and execution to ensure all teams understand the impact of SEO efforts.
  • Monitor SEO performance using tools like Google Search Console, SEMrush, Ahrefs, etc. to track keyword rankings, site performance, and traffic trends.
  • Analyze data to uncover insights and identify new growth opportunities, ensuring that SEO strategies are continually optimized for maximum impact.
  • Stay up to date with the latest SEO trends, Google algorithm updates, and emerging technologies to ensure Underdog Sports is at the forefront of industry best practices.
  • Experiment with and implement new SEO techniques, tools, and automation solutions to increase efficiency and performance.
  • Analyze and report on the impact of new SEO strategies and tactics to ensure continuous optimization.

Who you are:

  • 8+ years of experience in technical SEO, preferably within the gaming, consumer app, or e-commerce industry.
  • Strong understanding of search engine algorithms, crawling, indexation, and ranking factors.
  • Proficiency in using SEO tools such as Google Search Console, SEMrush, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, and other relevant platforms.
  • Solid understanding of web development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and the ability to communicate technical SEO concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience using data visualization tools like Looker or Google Data Studio to derive actionable insights.
  • Experience managing and optimizing mobile SEO and understanding mobile-first indexing strategies.
  • Knowledge of international SEO, including hreflang, geo-targeting, and multi-language strategies for global search success.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a proven ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive SEO-focused decision-making.
  • Knowledge of local SEO strategies and experience working with multi-location businesses is a plus.

Our target starting base salary range for this position is between $150,000 and $190,000, plus target equity. The starting base salary will depend on a number of factors including the candidate’s skills and experience, among other things.
